Al-Shabab militants in Somalia have publicly executed five people accused of being spies, KNN reports on Monday
The executions took place Sunday in the village of Iidaale in the Bay region in the southwest of the country, local credible sources said.
They were shot by firing squad after accused of helping the United States and Somali forces to target militants leaders.
The group’s court in the Bay and Bakool regions carried out the executions of five spies who worked for the US and Somali Intelligence Agencies,” the group said in a statement on a pro-Shabaab website, www.Somalimemo.net.
The Shabaab militant group was pushed out of Mogadishu in 2011 but continues to carry out attacks on military, political and civilian targets aimed at undermining the internationally-backed Somali government.
In recent months they have claimed attacks on bases of the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The United States has in recent years launched numerous drone strikes against Shabab leaders, including the strike that killed Godane.
