Somali security forces killed senior Islamist commander thought to be a foreign national, sources told KNN in Mogadishu on Saturday.
An overnight raid in the southwestern city of Baidoa of the Bay region, Somali troops spotted a home where senior foreign Islamist militant thought to be from Japan was hidden in.
“The terrorist was killled during an ambush that security force units set up against him in Baidoa on friday at night,” said the security sources.
Details of the operation still unclassified.
Security sources said, arrangements underway to display the body of the killed commander to media.
The killed is said to be a member of the al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab group.
