Somali federal government denounces the candidacy of former Al-Shabab deputy leader

Mogadishu-KNN- The internal security ministry of federal government of Somalia denounced the candidacy of MuKhtar Robow Abu Mansoor, former deputy leader of Al-Shabab, the terrorist group in Somalia and said that he is not eligible  to run the presidency of South-West state.

“Abu Mansoor is not met the conditions those international community put in place when he was lifted the sanction imposed by the international community”, the ministry said in a statement.

Abu Mansoor said on Thursday that he will run the presidency of South-West state in next month’s regional elections following requests from people in the area.

In June last year, following reports that Robow was in talks with the Somali government, the US State Department removed him from its terror list and scrapped a £5m (£3.85m) reward for his capture.

The internal security ministry said that there was conditions on Mukhtar Robow those refusing him to run a public office, but it did not give more details about the conditions those international community puts on Abu Mansoor.

The former Al-Shabab deputy leader arrived Baidoa on Thursday and hundreds of people gathered for his welcome.

It is the first time the faderal government comments the candidacy of Mukhtar Robow, he is yet to respond the statement of internal security ministry.
