EU NAVOFOR summit on Somali pirate kicks off in Bosaso

Mogadishu-KNN-European Union officials meet with senior security officials of Puntland regional administration in Bosaso, capital of Bari region on Monday.

The officials were discussing about the security of Somali coast and the operation against Somali pirates. EU Naval forces in Somalia’s waters have been fighting the pirates and decreased their presence in the Somali sea.

Security source told Kulmiye News Network that the EU officials arrived in Bosaso using warship and met high rank officers of Puntland naval forces.

The is no further details accessed by the media, but security source anonymously told KNN that the officials agreed to speed up operation against Somali pirates in Somalia waters to make sure the safety of the vessels travelling in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea.

The European Union Naval Force (Op Atalanta) Somalia – Operation Atalanta was launched on 8 December 2008 and is conducted in accordance with United Nations Security Council’s resolutions. The Operation has been extended by the European Council until December 2020.
