Five Quran teachers dead in Middle Shabelle fighting

Five religious teachers were killed and three others injured in suspected clan clashes in Adale district of Middle Shabelle region Thursday.

Sources in the district said the five teachers who conduct Quran clashes were ambushed and killed while together in a village in Adale district. Two others sustained gunshot wounds.

Among those killed were two brothers, sources said adding the assailants fled the areas following the incident.

The killings are reported to be fueled by disputes among clans in the area but the genesis of the fighting was not immediately clear.

There was no immediate comment from local authorities. Perennial clashes have persisted in parts of Somalia over pasture and grazing fields.
