Six killed, at least 8 wounded as blast targets market in southwest Somalia town

Six people were killed and at least 8 others were wounded after a bomb exploded in a restaurant in a busy market in Beled Hawo town, Gedo region, southwestern Somalia.

Reports from Beled Hawo indicate that the bomb may have been planted in the restaurant before the explosion.

The wounded were rushed to the town’s main hospital while security forces were deployed in key areas in the town to tighten security.

The blast came just a day after Somalia’s Acting Education Minister Abdullahi Godah Barre survived a roadside bomb attack as a delegation he was leading as travelling between the towns of Dollo and Beled Hawo in Gedo region.

Several people in the minister’s delegation, including a member of the federal parliament were injured in the explosion.
