SNA repels al-Shabaab attack on its base in central Somalia

Beledweyne-KNN-Somali National Army (SNA) on Tuesday morning repulsed a group of Al-Shabaab fighters after a fierce gun battle in the region of central Somalia.

The group’s fighters were repulsed in town of Beledweyne town in Somalia.

According to the military owned Radio, the group attempted to overrun a military base manned by Somali National Army but were pushed back.

Somali military officials who spoke to the radio confirmed that the forces killed several al-Shabab fighters during the fighting.

“The attack was repelled. al-Shabaab terrorists were confirmed to be killed and many injured,” SNA officials told the radio.

The military said there were no casualties suffered by SNA.

Officials said the forces had degraded al-Shabab capabilities to take effective attacks in the nation.

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and SNA forces have been on major offensives against AL-Shabab in central and southern Somali regions.

But the militants still hold swaths of territory in those regions, conducting ambushes and planting roadside bombs.
