Mogadishu-KNN-Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrived together to Nairobi, Kenyan capital on Tuesday night after they departed from Addis Ababa.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Somali counterpart Farmajo is expected to meet in Nairobi on Wednesday to discuss about the suspended ties between the two nations. The leaders also will discuss the maritime border dispute with the mediation of Ethiopian PM.
Last month Kenya summoned its ambassador to Mogadishu and ordered Somali ambassador to Nairobi go back to Mogadishu after it accused that Somalia auctioned oil and gas blocks located the maritime border disputed by the two nation.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague is considering a claim on the two countries’ maritime boundaries brought by Somalia in 2014 after negotiations over the 100,000 square km stretch of sea floor broke down.
State minister of Somalia foreign affairs Abdulkadir Ahmed Khayr told Radio Kulmiye that the leaders of Somalia and Kenya will not discuss issue about the sea border dispute, but they will solve diplomatic tension to speed up their relations.
Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopian Prime Minister is mediating Somalia and Kenya Presidents to restore the bilateral relations, according to his office.
