Somalia and Qatar agree to cooperate on security and economic sectors

Doha-KNN-The Federal Government of Somalia and the state of Qatar have agreed to strengthen the bilateral economic and security cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Somali premier Hassan Ali Kheyre and Qatari deputy prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

“It was an honor to have a fruitful meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Qatar government Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. We discussed strengthening bilateral relations, economic co-operation, and security.” The PM said.

The two leaders who met in Doha on Tuesday also discussed ways to boost already existing diplomatic and defense cooperation.

Qatar funds various development projects in Somalia which include roads and education activities.

Mogadishu and Doha developed close ties since the horn of the African nation neutral stance on the gulf diplomatic crisis in June 2017 where Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt imposed land, sea and air sanctions on tiny nation.
