US command in Africa carried out deadly air strikes against Al-shabab in Somalia

Mogadishu-KNN-A drone attack carried out the US Africa command targeted Al-Qaa’idda linked terrorist group in Somalia Al-shabab at outskirt of the capital Mogadishu, AFRICOM command said in a statement.

An airstrike was carried in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, killing 10 members of Al-shabab, a location approximately 15 miles southwest of Mogadishu on Wednesday, 23 May.

“U.S. Forces conducted an airstrike targeting al-Shabaab militants approximately 15 miles southwest of Mogadishu, Somalia, on May 23, killing ten (10) terrorists”, said the US African command.

“We currently assess no civilians were killed in this airstrike” it added.

AFRICOM targets usually targets leaders and fighters of Al-shabab in Somalia, and some operations caused civilian casualties in southern regions of Somalia.

10 May, special operation carried out by Somali special forces and US forces in Somalia in lower Shabele region killed five civilians and injured four others, but US command in Africa said it is investigating reports over casualties.

U.S. pledges will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect U.S. citizens and to disable terrorist threats in Somalia in coordination with Somali government.
