US offers $5 million bounty on Al-Shabaab official

Mogadishu-KNN-The US government has announced a $5 million bounty on the head of US citizen for information leading to his capture.

Jehad Serwan Mostafa, 37, a former San Diego resident who was on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist List has been charged with additional crimes involving ties to Somalia’s al-Shabaab rebel group.

He who is charged with fighting for a terrorist organization overseas is said to have provided support to al-Shabaab in Somalia.

US Federal prosecutors said he is believed to still be working in a central role planning al-Shabaab’s operation against the government of Somalia.

Mostafa is charged with criminal activities dating from 2008 to 2017.

The authorities said Mostafa was born in Wisconsin, but grew up in San Diego’s Serra Mesa neighborhood and attended high school and college in San Diego.

In 2005, he left US for Yemen and later Somalia, according to Scott Brunner, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s San Diego division.

“Today, Mostafa is believed to be the highest-ranking United States citizen fighting overseas for a terrorist organization,” said Scott Brunner.
